EASY & IMPORTANT WAYS TO SUPPORT OUR SCHOOL

E-mail Print PDF

There are a number of programs at St. Jude in which you can participate to help us acquire school supplies, monies, and other benefits that we would otherwise have to draw from tuition or other sources. Here is a short list:

1. SCRIP: Click Here to learn more and order (MEIJER SCRIP NOW AVAILABLE - 4%!)

How it works: You purchase face value gift certificates for local businesses and we receive a small percentage back (from those companies) as profit. The program returns a percentage toward school families' tuition as well.

Benefit: Upwards of $10,000 per year toward school technology resources.

2. Market Day: Click Here to Order

How it works: Purchase from a selection of fine foods available, with proceeds returned to the school. Orders are made once per month.

Benefit: Upwards of $3,000 per year toward the HASA fund.

3. Target "Take Charge of Education" (school ID#6654): Click Here to Register

How it works: Register our school to receive 5% back on purchases made with your Target "RED Card."

Benefit: Upwards of $1,000 per year in cash; over $11,000 since the program began

4. Martin's "Advantages for Education": Click Here to Register

How it works: Our school earns points every time you use your Martin's Advantage card. It's that simple!

Benefit: Over the last three years, we have acquired DVD players, library books, and a brand new IMAC computer worth over $1400. This is a hugely beneficial program for so little effort.

5. Campbell's Labels and Box Tops for Education

How it works: Cut the UPC from any Campbell's or Campbell's affiliated product. Return the "Box Tops" label from any participating product. These can be dropped off in the blue bins in the parish lobby.

Benefit: Box tops are returned to the school as cash (usually several hundred dollars). Campbells labels allow us to obtain P.E. and playground equipment at no cost to the school.

6. NEW (Capri Sun containers)

How it works: This works by itself. There is a bin in the lunch room that students may use to recycle ANY brand of juice pouch (no boxes). Benefit: We will receive $.02 cash for each container.)

THE FALCON

The first week of March has brought some welcome changes. The sun suddenly started appearing a lot more during the day and it seems like we have longer daylight in general. Daylight Saving Time will take effect again in another weekend (whether you like it or not). We had an awesome Trivia Night (more on that below), though technically still a February event. On Tuesday we had a very successful Kindergarten Information Night, with a healthy mix of current and prospective new families interested for next Fall. ISTEP (Round 1) is mostly complete. Both students and teachers appeared much better prepared for this 2nd administration of the spring exam. That's a lot of stuff happening in one week's time. So far the month has been a fun one, but there is a lot left to do and accomplish before spring break.

ARE YOU NEW TO CATHOLIC SCHOOLS?

Help is on the way for families who are joining Catholic schools for the first time (grades K-8). This would include students of immigrant background, language or ethnic minority, and those who could not otherwise affort to attend (in most cases, those qualifying for free or reduced lunch).

The "Michiana Miracle" initiative will soon be underway. Barbara and Charles Asher are sponsoring this effort to help all families discover the benefits of education in the non-public sector. Our school has teamed up with them to help place students in our school. Please visit the Michiana Miracle web site or contact their foundation for more information. Give St. Jude a call if you are interested in beginning your Catholic education today.

H1n1 & Health updates

H1N1 flu clinic is coming to St. Jude (Friday 2/19). Parents should have received information and permission forms in your communication folders. H1N1 is still out there and is likely to return in a not-so-pleasant encore. If your family still has not been vaccinated, here is an opportunity. This clinic is also open to teachers, staff, and parent volunteers. Ask in the office if you are interested.
