Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion at Mass and to the Sick
These persons are provided education and training to assist in the distribution of the Body and Blood of Christ at the Eucharistic Table and also to the sick, the hospitalized and the homebound. They are helpers to the priest who is the ‘ordinary’ minister. Their own personal lives must be lived in the light of the sacramental character of the work they do and must therefore be practicing Catholics.
Lectors
The gift of proclaiming the Word of God to the gathered assembly allows the Spirit of the Lord to work through the natural talents that such a ministry involves. Good proclaimers make the Word of God present and alive to the attentive ear.
Altar Servers
This ministry for the young persons of our parish gives them an opportunity to be ‘involved’ in worship, to learn how everyone’s gifts and talents can be used for the good of the whole community, to learn how to forego one’s personal preferences in favor of the community. It is hoped that the closeness to the priest during worship will foster vocational growth in the priesthood and religious life.
Greeters
These ministers welcome all who enter the doors of the Church. They are the first people that newcomers to our parish encounter. This ministry is important as it shows how friendly and welcoming we are as a parish. It is mentioned frequently as the reason people chose to join St. Catherine of Siena.
Ushers
These ministers are available for special needs before during and after Mass. They assist with specific liturgical movements for Communion and the like.
Sacristans
Sacristans care for the sacred spaces, vessels and objects at St. Catherine of Siena's. They prepare the alter with the items needed for Mass and other liturgies. Sacristans must have an understanding of the demands of the liturgy and must know what items are needed and know where those items are stored.
Liturgical Music Ministry
Persons who wish to use their singing ability and their musical talents are encouraged to join this ministry Members serve as part of the Choir, as Cantors and Song Leaders and as accompanists. The Choir assembles for the 9:30 a.m. Mass on weekends and Holyday liturgies at various times during the year. “Lift up your voice to the Lord.”
